I have been meaning for a while now to start a data science blog, not that the world needs to hear from one more statistician. I just needed to discipline myself to explore new areas and learn about new methods and to think critically about what is out there and avoid becoming a number crunching robot.
In this first post, I thought I can perhaps share with you how I created this site.
I did not want to mess around too much with graphic design, web development and hosting. I just wanted to quickly get started. I must admit, figuring this out was not as quick as I anticipated, but I am now able to easily create posts using R, knitr and Markdown and have them updated directly to my github hosted page.
1- Setting up a page on github I did that using github pages. The instructions to get started are pretty straight forward.
2- Website is a Jekyll-based website using knitr and R Markdown using yihui’ knitr-jekyll*
3- Creating a post is super easy thanks to this post by Brendan Rocks.
Next, I wanted to figure out how to add comments, to allow my readers to give me feedback and comment on what they read. I also want to add google analytics code to monitor web traffic.
Adding comments using Disqus was super easy. I followed this youtube video
Adding google analytics was also a breaze following this useful link.
and voila! how cool is that?
Now that everything is set up, stay tuned for some interesting posts!
(famous last words..)
